Enroot to Lachen lunch at local restaurant The driver also take us across the Bolshoi bridge, a Russian design which is 50mts above river bed .Lachen is a small Bhutia village with a monastery at its far end. We camp in the venicity of the village while our staff and potters are organized. |
Day 4:
Trek to Tallem (3240 M) 5 - 6 HrsWe start walking after breakfast to Tallem, which is also called Jadong. The first 6 kms of the walk is on the mettle road until we reach Zemu where the zemu chu rivers me arch with the thang chu river. We cross the huge steel bridge and take the trail, which turns westward and follow the left bank of Zemu Chu River. The source of this river is the Zemu glacier. We follow the river to our camp at Tallem at the junction of Lhonak chu and the Zemu rivers in the surrounding of a beautiful forest. Over night at Tent |
Day 5:
Tallem - Jakthang 37,80 M 4 HrsWe start walking again along the Zemu Chu River and after about 15 minutes cross the Lhonak chu river on a foot bridge and start ascending the hill through some of the most magnificent forest area in Sikkim. We camp at Jakthang by the side of Zemu Chu River. |
Day 6:
Jakthang - Yabuk (4050 M) 5 - 6 HrsOur trails continue through forest and after a short climb we cross a foot bridge over the Thombak Chu River which leads to the Thieu La (pass) and muguthang towards the Lhonal Valley. Today there will be more little ups and down and we will have to negotiate some tricky trails as the heavy rains and floods quite often wash away the trail. The last one hour is an uphill climb to our camp at Yabuk which is a fairly small, cold and windy campsite. Over night at Tent |
Day 7:
Yabuk - Rest Camp 4735 M 6 HrsAs we are in high country now the altitude effects will begin to be felt and our pace of walking will be slow. The trail enters the moraine section of the Zemu glacier crossing loose screen and boulders. As the valley opens up the rest peak including Khangchendzonga come into the view. The rest camp is situated right opposite siniolchu (6877m) knows to some as the most beautiful mountain in the world. Bharal or Blue sheep are often sighted on the hill opposite and this also the area where many sightings of the elusive snow leopard have been noted. We camp at the Rest camp. Over night at Tent |
Day 8:
Rest Camp - Green Lake 4 Hrs 4950 MToday is a short walk but the effect of altitude and walking on the boulders makes the going pretty slow. We are in open wide valley now with breath taking mountain views around us. The trail continues gently up the valley along the moraine ridge and the wide valley where we camp overnight. |
Day 9:
Green LakeToday we explore around us and will try to get further up the valley towards where the mountain expedition set their bass camp at the foot of four submits. The ridge of Simvu ice falls to the Zemu Gap at (5875 mts), which rise on the other side forming the huge. Unclimbed south east. Ridge of Khangchendzonga. From this Gap one can see the Geochala to the south. It is said that Tillman’s party in 1938 is perhaps the only climber to have crossed from this side to the other. The most impressive peak of siniolchu is just a few kms away across the Zemu glacier. This peak stands out around the entire mountain like Ama Dablam in the Everest area of Nepal. Green Lake is a base for mountaineering expxditions to the peak of this area. Whilst the water from Green Lake is now drained out due to Geographical changes and is now basically a dry basin, the misnomers of Green Lake is more than compensated by the surrounding great views. From this lake just a few kms away this is the huge Khangchendzonga which tower above. The peak is Simvo is just a short distance away. |
Day 10:
Green Lake – YabukFrom today on ward we retrace our steps back towards Lachen walking first to our camp at Yakbuk for overnight stay. |
